12 = 24 sq cm

Breadth of rectangle BEFG = FE = 2 cm
Area of rectangle BEFG = length
breadth = 8
2 = 16 sq cm
Area of the whole figure = Area of rectangle ABCD + Area of rectangle BEFG = 24 + 16 = 40 sq cm

Length of rectangle ABCD = AB = 7 + 7 + 7 = 21 cm
Breadth of rectangle ABCD = AD = 7 cm
Area of rectangle ABCD = length
breadth = 21
7 = 147 sq cm
Length of rectangle EFHG = EF = 7 cm
Breadth of rectangle EFHG = FH = 7 cm
Area of rectangle EFHG = length
breadth = 7
7 = 49 sq cm
Area of rectangle PQRS = Area of rectangle EFHG
Area of the whole figure = Area of rectangle ABCD + Area of rectangle EFHG + Area of rectangle PQRS
