By splitting the following figures into rectangles, find their areas (The measures are given in centimetres).
Length of rectangle ABCD = AB =3 cm
Breadth of rectangle ABCD = BC = 3 cm
Area of rectangle ABCD = length
breadth = 3
3 = 9 sq cm
Length of rectangle DEFG = DE = CE + AB = 4 + 3 = 7 cm
Breadth of rectangle DEFG = DG = AG – AD = 4 – 3 = 1 cm
Area of rectangle DEFG = length
breadth = 7
1 = 7 sq cm
Length of rectangle HFKJ = HF = CE + AB – GH = 4 + 3 – 2 = 5 cm
Breadth of rectangle HFKJ = JH = 2 cm
Area of rectangle HFKJ = length
breadth = 5
2 = 10 sq cm
Length of rectangle KLMN = NK = HF – JN = 5 – 3 = 2 cm
Breadth of rectangle KLMN = MN = 1 cm
Area of rectangle KLMN = length
breadth = 2
1 = 2 sq cm
Area of whole figure = Area of rectangle ABCD + Area of rectangle DEFG + Area of rectangle HFKJ + Area of rectangle KLMN
= 9 + 7 + 10 + 2 = 28 sq cm
