Half the perimeter of a rectangle garden, whose length is 4 m more than its width, is 36 m. Find the dimensions of the garden.
Solution:
Let length of rectangular garden = x metres
Let width of rectangular garden = y metres
According to given conditions, we have
x = y+4
(1)
And, Perimeter/2
(2)
So, we have two equations (1) and (2) here
Lets solve them graphically:
We plot the points for both of the equations to find the solution.
(Blue) and
(Red)
We can clearly see that the lines are intersecting at point (20, 16) which is the solution.
Therefore, length of rectangular garden = 20 metres
And, Width of rectangular garden = 16 metres
