Section Formula CBSE NCERT Solutions Chapter 7 Exercise 7.2 Question 9
9. Find the coordinates of the points which divides the line segment joining
A(-2, 2) and B(2, 8) into four equal parts.
Solution:
A = (-2, 2) and B = (2, 8)
Let P, Q and R are the points which divide line segment AB into 4 equal parts.
Let coordinates of point P =(x1, y1), Q =(x2, y2) and R =(x3, y3)
Because, AP = PQ = QR = RS. It means, point P divides line segment AB in 1:3.
Using Section formula to find coordinates of point P, we get
Because, AP = PQ = QR = RS. It means, point Q divides line segment AB in 2:2 = 1:1.
Using Section formula to find coordinates of point P, we get
Because, AP = PQ = QR = RS. It means, point R divides line segment AB in 3:1
Using Section formula to find coordinates of point P, we get
Therefore, P=(-1,
), Q= (0,
)and R =(1,
)
danish says
the value of q(0,5/2) is wrong because value m1=1 and m2=1 and the m1+m2=2 not 4.
the real value of q is (0,5).
