8. Using Converse of Basic Proportionality Theorem, prove that the line joining the mid-points of any two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side.
Solution:
Given: D is the midpoint of side AB and E is the midpoint of side AC.
To Prove: DE
BC
Proof: D is the midpoint of side AB which means AD = BD. E is the midpoint of AC which means AE = EC.
It means
DE is dividing AB and AC in the same ratio. Therefore, by the Converse of Basic Proportionality Theorem, DE
BC.
Hence Proved
