CBSE NCERT Solutions Chapter 6 Triangles Exercise 6.1 Question 1
1. Fill in the blanks using the correct word given in brackets:
(i) All circles are _____.
(ii) All squares are _____.
(iii) All _____ triangles are similar. (isosceles, equilateral)
(iv) Two polygons of the same number of sides are similar, if (a) their corresponding angles are ____ and (b) their corresponding sides are ____. (equal, proportional)
(i)
All circles are similar.
{The figures are congruent if they are identical in size and shape. The figures are said to be similar if they have same shape. All the congruent figures are similar but similar figures are not always congruent. All the circles are definitely of different sizes which makes them similar because the general shape of circle remains the same.}
(ii)
All squares are similar.
{ All the squares possible are of same shape but they are of different sizes which makes them similar.}
(iii)
All equilateral triangles are similar.
{All equilateral triangles possible have same shape but they are of different sizes which makes them similar. Isosceles triangles on the other hand, are of both different shapes and sizes. Therefore, all isosceles triangles are not even similar.}
(iv)
Two polygons of the same number of sides are similar, if (a) their corresponding angles are equal and (b) their corresponding sides are proportional.
{It is the property of similar polygons. For any two polygons to be similar, the corresponding angles of polygons have to be same and the corresponding sides must have the same ratio.}
